AJC'S INPUT TO THE SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR ON THE FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY
The Coalition prepared a submission in response to a call for input by the Special Rapporteur on the freedoms of peaceful assembly and association. The submission addresses the violation of various human rights relating to protests (i) in Myanmar against the coup; and (ii) by Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh refugee camps. It will be available on our website soon.

BHRN: REPORT LAUNCH AND PRESS CONFERENCE
On 29 July 2021, Burma Human Rights Network held a report launch and press conference titled 'Before Our Very Eyes'. The event hosted various speakers, including Stephen Rapp (former United States Ambassador). The report itself analyzes reports of international crimes by the Tatmadaw and the international community's response to the situation in Myanmar.

BROUK MEETING WITH FCDO UK
In July 2021, Tun Khin, Head of BROUK, attended a meeting with representatives from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom. Tun Khin called for, among others, stronger stance on international justice from the British government and increased assistance to Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh refugee camps.

On 8 July 2021, GCR2P participated in a discussion on 'Europe's Responsibility to Help Protect Populations Abroad: The Case of Myanmar'. Senior Human Rights Officer Elisabeth Pramendorfer discussed how the UN human rights system has and can play a role in responding to ongoing atrocities. |

ICJ URGES REFERRAL OF MYANMAR TO ICC
On 7 July 2021, the International Commission of Jurists addressed the Human Rights Council in the Interactive Dialogue with the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The ICJ condemned the widespread and systematic arbitrary arrests, detentions, torture, and extra-judicial killings in Myanmar. They also called on the Council to urge the Security Council to refer Myanmar to the ICC. |

HRW: 'SECURITY FORCES ARREST DEFENSE LAWYERS'
On 2 July 2021, Human Rights Watch reported that Myanmar's security forces arbitrarily arrested at least six defense lawyers defending political prisoners. At least three lawyers were arrested while attending court. Some were charged with violating Section 505A of the Penal Code.

CRC: MYANMAR RISKS DAMAGING ENTIRE GENERATION OF CHILDREN
On 16 July 2021, the UN Child Rights Committee warned that children's rights in Myanmar are facing an onslaught that risks leaving an entire generation damaged. Among others, the Committee strongly condemned the killing of children by the junta and police and deplored arbitrary detention in police stations.

HRC RESOLUTION ON MYANMAR
On 12 July 2021, the Human Rights Council adopted a resolution on Myanmar. They condemned the violence and rights abuses against ethnic communities in Myanmar, including the Rohingya. The resolution also urged Myanmar to take all measures necessary to reverse and abandon policies, directives, and practices that marginalize Rohingyas and other ethnic minorities.

RFA: FIVE-YEAR-OLD FORCED TO ENDURE STRESS POSITIONS
On 8 July 2021, Radio Free Asia published a news article of a five-year-old girl who was forced to endure stress positions during more than two weeks in detention. Her father helped organize protests against the military government. Security forces raided the family home and arrested his family members when they failed to locate him.

BACHELET: MYANMAR SITUATION A 'MULTI-DIMENSIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS CATASTROPHE'
On 6 June 2021, Michelle Bachelet, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights provided an oral update on the situation in Myanmar before the Human Rights Council. She stated that the situation has evolved from a political crisis to a multi-dimensional human rights catastrophe, compounded by the disastrous impact of COVID-19.

SPECIAL RAPPORTEUR CALLS FOR EMERGENCY COALITION
On 7 July 2021, Tom Andrews, the Special Rapporteur on Myanmar before the Human Rights Council called for the urgent formation of an 'Emergency Coalition for the People of Myanmar' to stop the military junta's 'reign of terror' in the country. He added that the international community is 'failing the people of Myanmar' and called for immediate action. Mary Lawlor, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, echoed Mr. Andrew's sentiments.

IIMM: OVER 200 COMMUNICATIONS RECEIVED
In July 2021, the IIMM released a bulletin, stating that it received over 210,000 communications containing information about the use of force against and arbitrary arrests of protestors. The bulletin also stated that preliminary information indicates that Myanmar security forces carried out a widespread and systematic attack on the civilian population since 1 February 2021.
